If you have ever had to register your motorcycle in Maryland, you probally have had to make modifications to your license plate cover or remove it. Maryland’s motorcycle license plates are bigger than most other states and do not fit in the normal size ones sold with motorcycles. Maryland bikers were forced to buy special size holders or figure out unique ways to mount them legally.
But that is about to change after a law goes in effect October 1st reducing the size of the plates to what other states use. While this does not mean that all bikers will have to replace their current plates, it does mean that new bikes will not have to purchase special holders anymore. This also may mena alot of current bikers may try to get the new plates so they can finally get the license plate holder they always wanted.
An unintended benefit of course is to the aftermarket manufacturers that will be able to stop selling the larger size holder and just be able to sell the smaller size . As stores clear out their old stock in favor of the new size, bikers who want the larger plates and holders may find some really good deals.
